impure_tale: (what was that?)

Owing to the sudden understaffing in the kitchen and Monsieur Sofer's refusal to allow Wardens to help, I'm wondering exactly how many Inmates here do not have some sort of occupation? Don't be shy. I won't bite. But you must be terribly bored, and I for one tire of eating at every meal what I would call a prisoner's ration if I for one hadn't eaten better in prison.

Meat on bread. Or cheese on bread. Honestly.

The wine only barely makes up for it. And this is hardly the fault of those working in the kitchens. If they've limited means to put out anything better then they cannot be blamed.

[Private to Iago]

I'm pleased that you've been taking shifts in the kitchen. I trust that means you're well.

[Private to Henry West]

Sparrow, I realize you're in recovery and taxed, I'm certain, but I've a matter of some urgency I need to discuss with you.

Nobody will let me work, for some crazy reason.

[identity profile] soundof-drums.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Put in a good word for me, why don't you.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Persimmon, I wouldn't dream of putting you in the kitchen.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Because I don't think you belong there.

[identity profile] soundof-drums.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
And where do you think I belong?

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oddly, I'm not certain where I would place you. Other than your predisposition toward mischief I'm not at all certain where you would most excel.

[identity profile] soundof-drums.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh well, another day of sandwiches, then.

I'd like to ask you about Iago.

Re: Private

[identity profile] heavenonthemind.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
You did something to him. During the flood.

He said you're repenting, but you did something and he won't talk of it.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't repent. That implies forgiveness established between myself and God. I apologized, despite my not being in any control of my actions at the time, because the version of myself from that world never would have.

Re: Private

[identity profile] heavenonthemind.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Apologized then. What for?

Private

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Not that it's your province to ask, but after a little too much mistreatment, I threatened him.

Re: Private

[identity profile] heavenonthemind.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Threatened him.

He's dealt with threats before. What was so different about yours?

Private

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Monsieur, I am a good Warden, for what few slips I have had. I will not be told otherwise. The safety of my Inmate is paramount. He is not party to my personal indulgences. He is not treated as I would casually treat a friend or acquaintance. In fact I do all that I can to be certain he remains completely separate from those things, because when he has need of me those things cannot matter.

The Marquis de Sade from that world was not a Warden. He was an Inmate who had been kept in a cage for far too long, and he did not share the same concerns for Iago's welfare and exclusion from his personal life.

That is what he was threatened with.

Oh.

...thank you for telling me.

Iago and I have spoken briefly about your recent involvement with him.

Private

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It's why you were killed, was it not?

Private

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It would seem to me that Iago is experiencing feelings of guilt for placing you in that situation.

Private

[identity profile] major-west.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Why? It was hardly his fault.

Private

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
He seems to think so. I'm sure I've never given you any details as to my work with him thus far, but if you know the character, then you must know this is visible progress for him.

Private

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Or...it could be a very clever ruse, though I myself cannot imagine what the reason for that would be. Either way, he refuses to speak further on the subject, and any ground I've gained will be lost if I simply allow him to ignore it.

If you are willing I would like to arrange a discussion between the two of you.

Private

[identity profile] major-west.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
What is there for me to talk about?

Private

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
If you do not blame him then you should tell him that. You're a grown man capable of making your own choices, but he will not hear that from me.

And if you think differently...then he should know that as well.

Private

[identity profile] major-west.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
...

All right, I'll talk to him, if he wants to. I won't do it if it's forced.

Private

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I will see what I can do.

I want him to be able to understand there is a difference between a person taking on a task for you, knowing the dangers, and coercing someone into acting with ill intent. Right now this is something he will not realize.

Why, no, his response isn't disproportionate at all.

[identity profile] onderhaus.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't refuse anyone's help. Talk to Sam Tyler, you loudmouthed fuck.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I quote: "We don't need wardens to do this job. We've got enough Inmates."

Correct me, Monsieur, but that is a rejection, is it not?

[identity profile] onderhaus.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That's rejection after being told not to take on wardens.

The Marquis isn't going to push the issue because he has no idea why he's so pissed off.

Shove off. It isn't a rule I invented!

[identity profile] onderhaus.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I never heard it before you popped out with it, Pal.
bythe_books: (can I go home now?)

[personal profile] bythe_books 2010-01-19 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Then maybe-- here's an idea-- you and everybody else should start paying better attention to the Admiral and quit blaming me for whatever inconvenience it causes.

It's not you, Sam. :< Promise.

[identity profile] onderhaus.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Go fuck yourself.
bythe_books: (screw you hippie)

It's okay, Sam's used to this

[personal profile] bythe_books 2010-01-19 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Brilliant. Looks like we've got a shortage in intelligent discourse on top of everything else.

[identity profile] tadwizard.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
...I like the sandwiches. I thought prisons weren't very nice in your time? These are really good sandwiches!

And you forgot. We get fruit with it.

I am...fine, Marquis. Back to normal, I should say.
