General Notice

Admiral, Iago's bed and books are to be removed from his chambers. A simple straw mattress will suffice.

Monsieur Sofer, if you are still experiencing shortages in the kitchen, feel free to add my Inmate to any shifts he does not already attend, and I want him on nightly cleanup. If he misses a shift, he is not to be fed.

My Inmate is not to be found anywhere within the vicinity of either the Master, or Judas Iscariot, without my prior sanction.

Thank you. That is acceptable.

I will work tomorrow, but I ask that you not use Judas as a reward. If Sexby consents, I will see him, but not because he is some object you can wave around to tempt me to work.

Iago, you are addressing the matter unfairly.

If you had not asked me already to see Judas, and I were to say "Iago: I have this task you are to do" and you were to say "I will not do it" and then I offered him as an incentive? Then that would be what you describe.

But that did not happen here. You said to me that you wish to see him, that you cannot abide being completely separated from him. If you are requesting something of me, then it is implied that you are asking "What must happen to make this possible?"

That is not dangling. That is negotiation. You want to be with Judas and you want not to be miserable. I want you to not be miserable but I also need to trust you and believe you are putting forward your best effort to settle again, and that you are busy and supervised for the time being.

Does this not serve the both of us?

I will be miserable for a long time, Marquis. That is something you should realize right now. But, in regard to the earlier point, let me propose this.

If I refuse to work, then I will not see Judas during that time I am supposed to be working.

But I will work for the return of my books, as I have not had much time to enjoy them recently. And...my bed, of course.

I will also issue a private apology to Angelica, as she has shown strange compassion and I do believe she deserves at least that much.

And I will discuss the past three years with you, answer any questions you have as truthfully as I can, when you ask.

Is that acceptable?
