This month seems to be attempting to form some irritating traditions around us. I believe that might be the third flood I've encountered with those effects. One would think they might be more eventful. Better that they're not, but self-control is a virtue so rarely praised on this ship.

Does no one ever question the sudden onset of obsession they feel for certain people? Especially when there has been nothing to build it upon save, perhaps, indifference? Anyone who has been in love knows it never happens that way.

[Private to Iago]

How are you feeling?

Yes, quite succinct. This is especially the case as there is nothing seemingly that can be done about it, barring exit.

You might attempt to speak to him about it.

There is no need to speak of these things.

No, our Inmates will simply improve if we hover in the distance and make certain nothing kills them.

{...It's worked so far?}

It is a hardly decorous matter, and speaking of it will only hinder.

Refusing to speak of it will only make them think they can ignore their problems. This is not simply a new life for them -- they are here to confront what they have done to bring them to their end and earn that new life. In that time we are also meant to prepare them so they do not make the same mistakes again, and history repeats when it is ignored.

There is nothing to learn from a mistake you were involuntarily compelled to commit. Furthermore, it is a matter with no bearing on his crimes.

{Or maybe he's just getting really edgy talking about it.}

The floods are events. They're impossible to control, as are many events in our lives. The most that can be done with them is to use them so that the Inmates may consider the mindset they were in. What they didn't like. What came easier for them. What became harder. When the love floods hit, especially when it's between a Warden and an Inmate, establishments about reality and fiction should be set, and it must be made absolutely clear that we will not abuse the power we have. They must know that their Warden thinks no differently of them, and sometimes that means convincing them to swallow their embarrassment and answer questions. In the instance of a love flood, most importantly, you have to remember that the only thing that changed was that someone was in love with someone else. It is important to observe and talk about things they do along with that.

You would honestly believe that discussing events at length would serve a purpose beyond humiliation and discomfort? I should think the best way to show that nothing of note has occurred would simply be never to mention the happenings.

If it were nothing of note then you would not be afraid to speak candidly of it.

When another party is involved it is best to ensure confidence.

{Except that he's a liar.}

...Your Inmate is Reaver, oui?

{Pause. Another pause.}

He is.

[A sigh. The Marquis -- he does not like Reaver. At all. The fact that he's trying to be helpful means something.]

And he behaved most strangely during the flood, I'd assume.

{Maybe the Marquis just needs to be more social.}

Quite strangely, indeed.

{Fingernails, they are interesting. So very interesting.}
