Do you know I never fancied ships in my youth? I had in my delusions, as a prisoner given to an obsession with numbers, once predicted that the letters I was receiving included secret 'signals' that I would be exiled to Barbados the following fortnight. This sent me into such a passion that I wrote probably some of the most unkind letters to my wife that I had ever penned -- not of course because I loathed sunshine, just the seas and all vessels that floated upon them.
I'm tempted to suggest this one does not count. Perhaps it is the absence of any real water.
Lucius Malfoy, I am making quick work of your file. I expect that we should meet very soon, but until I have committed this information to memory, we shall have to settle for conversation here. Have you any pressing quesetions?

I'll tell you though, the view from this particular ship's deck is infinitely more interesting than any of the ships I've ever been on.

The only interesting sight I ever beheld while aboard a ship before had more to do with the people than the scenery. While traveling to Italy I boarded a ferry, disguised as a priest. The weather turned ominous and tossed the little ship rather mercilessly, and many frightened patrons asked me to hear their last confessions. I politely agreed.
...We reached our destination safely, of course.

I have pressing requirements. If you would please refer to the following:
a) a new room, as current quarters are quite unlivable and insufficiently furnished;
b) wand and full magical faculties restored (please refer to Severus Snape for consultation in this matter);
c) a full copy of the files you have obtained about myself;
d) indication from yourself that you would be willing to provide some petty common luxuries.
Hopefully all can be in order in good time.
STRIKES ARE INVISIBLE
b) I will come to this after I have addressed your other points, because I have much to say in this regard.
c) In time. I have read your file completely by now, but I am taking time to make notes and draw some of my own conclusions. Once this has passed I'll be happy to pass along a copy to you.
d) I will not quibble with you on the inherent contradiction I find in tying the words 'common' and 'luxuries' together, but I will conclude on this point by saying that my willingness to provide depends entirely upon what they are and how you behave.
Referring back to your second request, I want to make a few things very clear. The first is that while Monsieur Snape has the best intentions in mind, he is not your barrister, and you will not place him between the two of us at your whim. I am not the crown nor the high court, and you are not here to be tried; this is what comes after.
Next and more importantly, if I am to consider returning your wand and your full magical abilities, there must be some ground rules regarding how I expect that to be handled. First, regardless of the opinions of others on the fact, keeping your wand will be based upon your behavior, and I will take certain precautions to make certain of that before it is ever returned to you. I am very much against providing an Inmate a weapon simply because one especially outspoken minority suggests it is an intrinsic part of who they are.
To be perfectly plain: I agree magic is part of you as a person, and to stifle such a thing would be akin to striking a person blind or deaf. Your senses and your physical and mental abilities are built in your existence; your wand? Is not.
Not that wand in particular, at any rate.I understand that it is used for a wide variety of other purposes, but the capabilities it grants you makes it no different from setting a pistol in your hand. Therefore, if I am to return it to you, then you must be on your best behavior, find an occupation on the ship (if you do not, I will find one for you), and you must specifically never use these "Unforgivable Curses". I would also stress against using magic in altercations with other persons, unless they are similarly armed, but if you must protect yourself, then you must protect yourself -- without excessive force. If a man slaps your face, that does not give you leave to set him on fire. Finally if you use your magic to attack or coerce me, that will be the absolute end of it.
If the above is acceptable to you, then I will speak with the Admiral about the return of your abilities and a wand. Please respond with the clarifications I've requested.

b) See below.
c) Thank you.
d)
I see you are taking these roles to heart. I will do you the honesty of stating plainly that I do not
Perhaps meeting would be more appropriate. State your preferred location and be there within the hour.
Spam is cool for me.
[Because fuck prisons, is the Marquis' way of viewing things]
Since you're feeling brave, my cabin is room four on the third level. Large iron door; you cannot miss it. Be careful; the ship has been a little less than predictable of late.

And he does, just shy of it by several minutes. Dressed nicely if not excessively, in shades or black and burgundy. If he had only his prison garb at his disposal, his complaining would have been a lot louder. His hands are empty of his cane, otherwise he'd use that to knock against iron door - instead, his knuckles rap smartly against it and he steps back, hands folded behind him.
'The Marquis de Sade' being a common mantra in his thought process, and only starts again now that he's knocked. ]

Bloody Lucius. I said I would advocate for his magic; I did not say he could name-drop as though I am some sort of weapon to be wielded against his warden...As stated above, I do advocate the restoration of his wand and abilities, as I do for all inmates with magical ability.
However, in the case of Lucius Malfoy, I suggest a compromise. Restoration of his abilities, with the caveat that he can not perform spells used to harm others. I also suggest requiring him to work in exchange.
I advise against making him beg, or punishing him with the revocation of his magic, not because of a belief that it is his right, but because it will do you no favours with him. He has little regard for Muggles, and that you are in a position of authority over him will chafe enough without the additional resentment which will result if you use his abilities to punish him.
That said, he is your inmate - and unlike most on this ship, I trust your judgment to handle the situation with the respect and consideration it deserves. I will not allow myself to be used by him to undermine your authority.

I think that you do but I am already concerned that he will attempt to bring all grievances to you.

I wish to see my friend become the man I know heI have only promised him that I will advocate for his magic. With the above, I have been as good as my word.

I must stress, however, that you must not kill your Inmate. It is your duty to protect him. Just remember that I am here to assist you in whatever way that I can.

Is this some sort of...trial?

You and Doctor Crane have mutual reasons for not trusting one another, and unfortunately earning his trust must be your cross to bear, initially, before you can expect for him to earn yours. Study his file carefully and attempt to know more than the man with whom you have been at odds in the last year or two.

Marquis, what happened to mine?
