One does not come to realize how much they miss their voice until they haven't one at all. I have learned this time and again, usually metaphorically, but now quite literally. Fear not, my darlings -- though the fear of death is forever absolute in this place the after-effects, however unpleasant, are so blessedly temporary.

Now if only the dreams were as well.

That is quite disturbing.

What sort of place could do that? That doesn't seem legal in any court.

In that world you may buy new organs, have surgical changes to your appearance, for a price. However, when people fall behind on payments the company that makes these organs sends someone to reclaim them. They do not listen to reason when you try to explain you have made no purchases.
