To those of you who have expressed an interest, you will be pleased to know that I think I have finally selected a play. It was not one directly recommended, but at the behest of a few people I delved more into the writings of one particular writer and decided that I should like to try one. The play that I have selected, having liked the material and with an understanding that there will be mostly equal roles for male and female actors, is "A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams.

Having read the play and stage directions and made notes, however, I realize that though the stage is of a decent size, along with actors and actresses, I am also going to need others: Set designers and builders will be required -- not to mention the materials for them to use. I will also need the aid of anyone who can sew clothing -- who will also likewise require access to such things.

Lighting, effects, musicians -- the latter is important. There are not many places in the play that music is outright required, but one or two people with some grasp of an instrument would be helpful.

I, of course, intend to direct.

(ooc: I feel like a right idiot for picking the play that I did -- largely because I talk about this play a lot, and it reeks of pepperjack cheese to me, but I think the male to female ratio in the cast was more even, and since I know it well I can at least give some substance to the Marquis bitching. Admit it, though; it's totally a safe choice.)

Have fun with all of that.

Not your cup of tea, sparrow?

Attending the theatre is one thing; I am not a participant.

It might give you something to keep you busy and out of the kitchen.

A play?

This place, it is still very new to me. I did not believe a prison such as this would permit something so very...civilised.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been in prisons, Monsieur. This is not a prison. It may be confinement, but not of that sort.

[identity profile] themostdashing.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I see...I have not been confined at all before, so it is not for me to make such distinctions. It was not my intention to offend, Signor...?

The Marquis de Sade, at your service. And I am not offended, Monsieur.

Did you know, I've played Blanche DuBois.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that a fact, Mademoiselle?

[identity profile] daisyadair1938.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It is. She was one of my best stage roles.

What do you need to be built?

Welcome to the Barge. I am pleased to have drawn your attention, if what you say is true.

You better believe it's true. I'm surprised you haven't heard of me.

I can sew a little. I used to have to do quick repairs to my sister's gowns.

It goes without saying that you should play nicely, right?

It most certainly does, Captain Kirk. It is my desire for this production to be a success, after all.

I can't wait to see the final product then.

I'll help with the building/painting/etc. of the sets. I can also help with props, set changes and whatever odd jobs backstage you might need.

Oooh, I was in a play once! I was seven, and I was a tree. Dunno if that helps you.

[identity profile] runaway-donna.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, not just a tree. I had lines. I was one of the bullies who told Timmy Treebark he was too small to go to the Forest Festival with us.

Alright, it wasn't much of a play. But you must have a little part in there for me somewhere? Ms. Whiversham said I was the best at projecting in the whole school!
