[The Marquis appears to be in the hallway outside his room. The decoration on his door is making its irritating wailing noises, which isn't what has him wincing. What can also be heard on camera is Renate barking hysterically.]

Thank you, Admiral. [Saaaarcasm?] As if she had little other reason to feel on edge this month.

[He takes the offending item down and throws it down the hallway, keeping hold of Renate's leash as well as he can.]

I don't do well on ships. This place just manages to be an exception.

[Jones gives a blithe snort of amusement] It would behoove him to remember that Pirate Lord is an honorific, not a landed title.

This place is no more a ship than I am a man.

[A little chuckle as he rises.]

And what is a man, Captain? Is your definition truly so narrow that you cannot see yourself inside it?

I was a man once. I am one no longer. Your definitions are uncommonly broad.

A man is a creature whose heart is his own, who can stand on land on his own two feet, who is not a slave at the whim and call of other men.

And if we were speaking strictly in the cosmetic sense, men do not look as I do.

[He leans against the wall, considering his words carefully.]

I've known few men that have not lost their heart -- and they're probably just very good liars.

It is a weapon wielded against me, now. If I had the choice I would be rid of it forever.

Shameful of the lady or lad using it so recklessly; you have my sympathy.

[The mood swing is abrupt; Jones slams his claw arm into the marquis' door. If he were at full strength, he would have knocked it off its hinges; as his warden's sapped his powers, he only makes a loud crack]

She did not.

[Either way, the iron surface remains where it is.]

You're far too gallant not to call yourself a man if you'll shoulder your own pain.

My pain is of my own making. I would not be here if I was not in some way responsible for it. Do not mistake an admittance of fault for gallantry.

You're willing to protect even at your most angry. Is that not gallant?

I am not willing to stand here and listen to lies and falsehoods told about someone you have never met!

If you believe it a falsehood then I pray you clarify your meaning. You said it is a weapon wielded against you. Why are you responsible for the actions of another?

She did not ever threaten its well-being! She did not steal it for herself, I gave it willingly!

I'm afraid there is something I must not understand then, Captain. I invite you to my home to partake of wine and conversation. Logically, if you were to use that invitation to do me harm, you would still be the one responsible for your own decisions and actions.

Don't tempt me, Marquis.

Never mind. It's in the past. It no longer matters now that I am here.

And you placed it there in order to be a nuisance. And considering the times from which we hail are not so far apart, I don't believe I'm remiss in observing that it's not mature behavior for anyone your age, be he man or mollusk.

[Jones watches the Marquis in stunned, detestable silence. Finally, he snaps after him]
