My readers, I am afflicted. Not by any present flooding, not by violent protest, not even by a nannying Warden. No, my tormentor is something a good deal more wicked.

Writers block, my lovelies. What am I to do?

The world is without magic. Everything can be explained; it requires a simple deduction of scientific reasoning. Cause and consequence, sense and reason - those and similar should be the basis of a justice system. The Barge is without one currently; there is no law here, no rules. This needs to change, and soon.

...

Forgive me, sir, I did not mean to ramble on.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2008-11-10 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Universal human truths, mon ami.

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-11-10 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not understand what you mean, sir. All things I mentioned above do pertain to humans, and are truths.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2008-11-10 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
One culture may scientifically explain one thing while another dismisses it as sorcery. Justice will be seen differently depending upon the nation. A crime in one place will be praisable in another.

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-11-10 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, those are unfortunately also true. Humans and what they do will vary depending on their location. But if you asking thusly what remains the same throughout, then I suppose the answer therein would be our basic nature: we are born, we grow, and we die.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2008-11-10 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
We also eat, shit, fuck and kill.

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-11-10 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
...

Honestly, sir, is such vulgar language really necessary?

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is. It's the most honest.

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
There are more polite ways of getting ideas across.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Good manners are not always necessary.

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
They most certainly are! Without manners, without etiquette, we are no better than animals!

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Several moments pass.]

I must wholeheartedly disagree with you, sir. Civilization, education, justice, law, rules -- need I go on? Animals lack the ability to think, to discuss; instincts rule them and nothing more.

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
You have evidence to disprove me?

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
You have no evidence to prove yourself.

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Our very conversation proves that we are above animals.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
You cannot prove they do not converse.

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Amongst themselves, of course I cannot prove this either way. But speaking with us, humans, in an intellectual debate as this? No, they have not.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
So you would consider them inferior for being unable to do what we cannot do ourselves?
Edited 2008-11-11 01:37 (UTC)

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
What we cannot do--? I do believe we are debating in a calm, rational manner.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
You would call them inferior for failing to speak to us? As if we've succeeded in speaking to them?

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Thoughtful pause]

I very much would, yes.

But we have, it seems, completely derailed my reason for writing you to begin with. Do you wish for my assistance in your writer's block?

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Then you are an idiot, and I have written my fair share of buffoons.

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Very well, then. I was not offering to be a part of your stories, merely another person to hear your ideas. But if that is how you feel, then we've nothing more to say.
